Reunion

In 1988, in honor of the school’s 30th anniversary, I created a musical that projected into the future, to the year 2018 to be exact. The setting was the reunion of the school’s class of 1988. The school and church are no longer used, all jobs from chaplain to teacher are now handled by what I called at the time, “The Great Machines.” The alums gather and share their disappointment with their own lives, as well as the directions their children are moving in. In the end they come together to recreate the school. Not everyone in the audience was impressed. One particular parent was offended by the idea that these children were boring, and that the parents were boring also. Oh, well.

We actually had an original cast member as a parent in 2018 when I considered reviving the show. I decided against it because, for me the show existed in one specific time, 1988.

Enjoy! Comments are always welcome.
